At the Geospatial World Forum (GWF) being organized in Hyderabad, India from 15–19 January 2017, ICIMOD is co-sponsoring Geo4SDGs, an international conference aimed at using geo-knowledge to achieve the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.
The conference aims to bridge the gap between the geospatial community, policy makers, and the implementers of the sustainable development goals (SDGs). It will provide a platform to stakeholders to discuss the integration of geospatial data into the sustainable development agenda through plenary and panel discussions, and targeted sessions.
The conference will serve as an enabling platform for action involving the international community, national governments, industry players, and civil society to socialize, network and develop a dialogue for attaining the SDGs.
A delegation comprising of ICIMOD staff and programme partners from ICIMOD’s regional member countries under the SERVIR Hindu Kush Himalaya (SERVIR-HKH) initiative will be attending the Geospatial World Forum (GWF) and the Geo4SDGs conference.
During the conference, ICIMOD will highlight work carried out under its Mountain Environment Regional Information System (MENRIS) regional programme, and the SERVIR Hindu Kush Himalaya (SERVIR-HKH) initiative in particular, at the SDGs Pavilion.
For over ten years, the GWF, a mega geospatial business cum technical event, has highlighted the value and power of geospatial technology as an enabler to address global and social-economic issues. The event attracts various industry and development leaders from around the globe.
