Consultation Workshop on Localizing Earth Observation Data Products for Agro-Climatic Services

About

The Pilot Program for Climate Resilience (PPCR) project, Building Resilience to Climate Related Hazards, Ministry of Population and Environment (MOPE), Government of Nepal, with support from the Nepal Agriculture Research Council is working on the development of an agriculture advisory system to better equip the agri-extension system to support farmers to adapt to climate change.

SERVIR Hindu Kush Himalaya (SERVIR-HKH) at the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD), plans to complement these efforts by bringing state-of-the-art earth observation and information communication technologies through its network of partners including the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), National Aeronautics and Space Agency (NASA), and globally renowned universities.

Through this collaborative work, an integrated agriculture monitoring platform, Agriculture Information Dashboard (AID), is in the process of development to facilitate decision making at the central level and enable agriculture experts to translate scientific data into commonly understandable agriculture advisories.

Objectives

As part of the AID development process, this workshop is being organized to collect feedback at the local level on the overall elements of the proposed system, and provide orientation on the use of data products developed from earth observation for agriculture monitoring and agro-climatic advisories.

  • To provide orientation on primary data products being used in the AID
  • To compile local level farming practices calendars and critical times for key crops
  • To assess the usability of earth observation based data products at the local level
  • To provide orientation on SMS based service

Participants from relevant government agencies, local NGOs, and representatives from farmer groups will be invited to the meeting.
